This book is an outcome of first hand information collected by author between 1874-1902 from various parts -town and jungle, hills and plains of the country. This book depicts the vivid pictures of life in native villages, towns, cities, jungles on the plains and the various parts of hilly areas which the author enjoyed while travelling during his long span of stay in India.
Alfred Cornelius Newcombe, B.A. M.I.C.E., late Public Works Dept. Trained at R.I.C. College, Appointed on 1st Oct., 1874 and employed on Irrigation Works in the Punjab and the N.W. Prov and Oudh; serverd in the Superior Accts. Established, 1878-81 and 1886-90, and in Assam, 1881-86; services lent to Nizam govt., 1895-97; transferred to Hyderbad Administration in Oct. 1900 and he got Retired in November 1902.
