This Gazetteer presents all
important information about the land and people of the district of Patna.
Describing its physical features, it gives detailed account of its history,
religion, public health, agriculture, irrigation, natural calamities, rents,
wages and prices, occupations, means of communication, administration, land
revenue, education and local self-government. The evolution of the capital city
of Bihar from Pataliputra to Patna has also been discussed.

Lewis Sidney Steward O' Malley
I.C.S. was educated at Edward School, Normich and graduated from Hertford
College, Oxford. He was appointed in 1897. He arrived in India on 7th Dec 1898
and Served in Bengal as Assistant Magistrate and Collector. He later joined as
Under Secretary to Govt. General and Revenue Department, in July 1903.
